Around 2020, a new style of ramen known as “Chan-kei” began appearing in Tokyo and quickly became popular.
Many of these shops have names ending in “-chan,” a friendly and affectionate Japanese suffix often added to people’s names, which is how the nickname “Chan-kei” came to be used.
Tomochin Ramen is one of the shops associated with this style. Although its name ends in “-chin” rather than “-chan,” it is still considered part of the Chan-kei family.
As the style has grown in popularity, more related shops have opened across Tokyo and beyond.

▶ What I Tried
Chuka Soba | 中華そば

The bowl comes with plenty of flavorful broth, noodles, and a generous amount of chashu.
The soup is served piping hot and has a clean taste while still delivering plenty of umami. It is the kind of broth that makes you keep reaching for another spoonful.
The shop is particular about slicing the chashu fresh, and that may be one of the reasons the pork tastes especially good.
The chopped green onions also work very well with the ramen. Because the soup is so hot, their aroma and flavor gradually blend into the broth and add another layer to the bowl.
Rice can also be added for free.

▶ Final Thoughts
Tomochin Ramen is extremely popular, so there is almost always a line.
It is difficult to predict a time when the shop will be completely quiet, so I recommend visiting when you have a little extra time and do not need to rush.
The constant line is simply a sign of how popular this ramen shop has become.
