Hirugao began in 2001 as the daytime shio ramen brand of Setagaya,
a ramen shop founded in Tokyo’s Setagaya ward in 2000.
The original shop served shio ramen as Hirugao during the day and shoyu ramen as Setagaya in the evening.
This Tokyo Station branch brings Hirugao’s signature shio ramen to Tokyo Ramen Street.

▶ What I Tried
Shio Ramen|塩らーめん

The broth is clean and light, yet full of flavor, with an umami that lingers pleasantly.
It is an easy bowl to enjoy, and I kept reaching for another spoonful of soup.
The thin noodles pair beautifully with the broth, while a touch of yuzu adds a refreshing accent that brings the flavors together.
Personally, I enjoyed it much more than its Google reviews had led me to expect.
Shoyu Ramen|醤油らーめん

During my visit, shio ramen seemed to be the more popular choice,
but the shoyu ramen was delicious too.
It reminded me of a good, old-fashioned bowl of chuka soba: a familiar, satisfying flavor that I would happily enjoy again.
▶ Final Thoughts
In my experience, weekends can be busy at this Tokyo Ramen Street shop.
I have often been able to walk in without queuing on weekday afternoons,
between the lunch and dinner rushes.
