Bacal Ramen banner featuring shoyu, tonkotsu, miso and tsukemen-style ramen with Mount Fuji, cherry blossoms and a Tokyo skyline in the background

Asahikawa Ramen Bangaichi may not be one of the most famous ramen shops around Tokyo Station, but there always seems to be a steady flow of customers.

Personally, I like this place quite a bit, and there was a time when I used to come here pretty often.

Shoyu Ramen|醤油らーめん

A bowl of Asahikawa-style shoyu ramen served at Bangaichi in Yaesu near Tokyo Station.

Asahikawa ramen is often associated with shoyu, but it is not the kind of light, delicate soy sauce ramen you might imagine.

The soup is served piping hot, with plenty of richness and a strong, satisfying flavor.

That is exactly what I like about Bangaichi as well. The broth comes out very hot, the seasoning is bold, and it has enough punch to make every sip satisfying.

For me, this is a really enjoyable bowl of shoyu ramen.

Miso Ramen|味噌らーめん

This miso ramen is good enough to challenge the idea that Asahikawa ramen is all about shoyu.

The soup is piping hot, rich, and strongly seasoned, with plenty of depth and punch.

It is seriously delicious.

There was even a time when I was eating this miso ramen all the time, lol.

Shio Ramen|塩らーめん

At first glance, it looks like a simple bowl of shio ramen, but the flavor has much more depth than you might expect.

The seasoning is fairly strong, and maybe that is part of what makes it so satisfying.

Either way, it has an addictive quality that makes you want to come back for another bowl.

Outside the peak lunch hours, it usually does not feel too crowded.

One slightly disappointing thing is that the half fried rice set is often sold out by the time I visit.

It is a simple combination, but ramen with a small fried rice on the side is always satisfying, so I am a little disappointed whenever it is unavailable.
