A Hidden Gem: Famous Akanoren in Marunouchi
Akanoren has been a well-known name in Tokyo for many years, and its long-established Nishiazabu restaurant still attracts plenty of customers.
But you can also enjoy the same style of Hakata tonkotsu ramen at the Marunouchi location inside the Marunouchi Building, just steps from Tokyo Station.
Depending on the time of day, the Marunouchi location can be easier to get into than the Nishiazabu restaurant, making it a convenient choice if you want to try Akanoren without going out of your way.
And most importantly, the ramen is just as satisfying, with the same rich yet easy-to-drink tonkotsu flavor that Akanoren is known for.

▶ What I Tried
Ramen | らーめん

Even among Hakata-style ramen restaurants, the flavor of the soup can vary quite a lot.
At Akanoren, the soup has a gentle and well-balanced taste. Even though it feels mild, it still has plenty of richness, bringing out the natural flavor of pork without becoming too heavy.
It is the kind of soup I can keep drinking, even when I do not have much of an appetite.
The noodles have a pleasantly firm, slightly chewy texture, and the chashu is also flavorful and satisfying.
You can order kaedama, an extra serving of noodles that is common with Hakata ramen, if you want a more filling meal. Another good option is to order a set with takana rice or mentaiko rice for an even more satisfying meal.

▶ Final Thoughts
The restaurant is fairly spacious and has a relaxed atmosphere, although in the evening you may also see groups enjoying drinks and a lively meal.
One of the nice things about Akanoren is that you can enjoy drinks and food first, then finish the night with a bowl of ramen right at the same restaurant.
