Japanese yakiniku with marbled beef, grilled meat and a Tokyo skyline

A Nostalgic, Old-School Yakiniku Spot in Kamata

Yakiniku Reimen Tecchan Kamata has the atmosphere of an old-fashioned neighborhood yakiniku restaurant, with a slightly nostalgic Showa-era feel.

Personally, it reminds me of a casual Japanese izakaya, but built around yakiniku instead. It is relaxed, lively, and easy to enjoy without feeling too formal.

The restaurant also embraces a classic street-style yakiniku concept, with richly seasoned meat and bold dipping sauces.

Rather than a polished luxury yakiniku experience, this is the kind of place where you can simply sit down, order meat, drinks and side dishes, and enjoy a casual local-style meal.

Tetchan Kamata Beef Tongue

The tanshio is inexpensive, but I would not say it is especially tender or high-end.The seasoning is quite strong, though, and when eaten with rice, it actually works surprisingly well.

For me, this is less about delicate beef tongue flavor and more about enjoying a salty, satisfying yakiniku dish with a bowl of rice.

The karubi is not the soft, melt-in-your-mouth style you would expect from a luxury yakiniku restaurant.Instead, it has a fairly strong seasoning and a more casual, satisfying character.

The bold flavor goes very well with rice, and I also think it pairs nicely with beer.Of course, this kind of rich seasoning may depend on personal taste, but it fits the old-school, casual atmosphere of Tecchan very well.

Tecchan has the kind of casual, neighborhood atmosphere where you can imagine local regulars stopping by for yakiniku and a drink.

It is not a luxury yakiniku experience, but that relaxed, old-school character is part of what makes the restaurant appealing.

The restaurant is tucked a little inside the building, so it can be easy to miss on your first visit.
