Yayoi Ken Breakfast in Kawasaki | Mini Sukiyaki & Salmon Dashi Chazuke

Yayoi Ken Breakfast in Kawasaki is an easy and affordable way to enjoy a traditional Japanese-style breakfast with free rice refills.

One of the best things about Yayoi Ken is that rice refills are free, and now you can also enjoy the rice as dashi chazuke using the complimentary soup service.

So I decided to try it for myself at Yayoi Ken Kawasaki Kotorobashi, located in Kawasaki.

The restaurant opens early in the morning, which makes it a convenient place to enjoy one of their breakfast-only set meals before starting the day. Yayoi Ken’s breakfast menu also includes the Mini Sukiyaki Breakfast, which comes with free rice refills.

Flaked Salmon for Dashi Chazuke

Yayoi Ken Mini Sukiyaki Breakfast with rice, miso soup, raw egg, tofu, mini sukiyaki, and flaked salmon.

Since it is called a “Mini” Sukiyaki Breakfast, the portion of sukiyaki is pretty small (lol).

Well, it is cheap though. At the time I visited, it was ¥540 including tax.

Then a personal battle began between me and Yayoi Ken: how much rice could I finish with such a small amount of sukiyaki beef?

There are also free pickles, and if you add a little soy sauce to make them more flavorful, they work surprisingly well as another side dish for rice.

The small plate in the middle contains flaked salmon, nori, and wasabi. I decided not to touch any of it yet because I was saving it for the dashi chazuke later.

After finishing my first bowl of rice, I got a free refill.

Then, just as I was starting to feel full...

I went back for another bowl of rice...

It should look something like this.

Next, add the flaked salmon, nori, and the other toppings that you saved earlier.

Be careful with the wasabi because it can be quite strong. Add a little at a time, dissolve it into the dashi, and taste as you go.

That way, you can adjust the flavor exactly how you like it.

Dashi chazuke complete!

Yep... this is really good.

The dashi itself is so flavorful that some people simply get another bowl of rice, pour the broth over it, and enjoy it without adding any extra side dishes.

Still, since you are already there, I recommend trying one of the chazuke toppings such as mackerel or salmon. It makes the dashi chazuke even more satisfying.

And one last warning — be careful not to add too much wasabi! 😆

So, everything is going well (*´▽`*)
